Take me home to my people

And let them bury my bones there

Let them scatter my ashes where they wish

Let them mourn, weep, chant for me

For that is the only way they can celebrate my life

Let them sing my life, compose poems of me

Tell stories of me and celebrate me through dance

Take me home to my people

And let them remain silent if they so wish

Let them utter words that will comfort them

Let them shout, scream, call out for me

For that is the only way they can celebrate my life

Let them create memories, ensure my soul is at peace

Accept my departure and let me rest-for I am gone

Take me home to my people

And let them give me a befitting burial

Let them forgive me if I ever wronged them

Let them curse, accuse, deny me

For that is the only way they can celebrate my life

Let them talk to their son in what way they wish

For in life they could not do it and in death they can

Take me home to my people

And let them know that I loved them all

Let them feel for me the last time today

Let them speak, move, sing for me

For that is the only way they can celebrate my life

Let them bid me farewell in my home land

For home is where I want my bones and ashes to rest
